How many of you reading this right now are sitting at a desk that looks just like this?! Do you get stressed out just looking at it? I do! It is pretty obvious that the person using this desk isn’t as productive as they could be. And that is why they called in Harmony Sieter, a professional organizer with Harmony Organized, to help solve the problem. And wait until you see what she came up with!
“This project took roughly 6 hours to do. The outdated hutch was a gathering place for unused items and outdated material. Removing the hutch allowed us to utilize great vertical space to create a functional command center in this small home office. A large removable calendar, separate boards for family and work to-do lists, sorting file baskets, and mirror and hooks for bag and jacket make this command center the perfect way to balance home and work. Open filing systems both on and in the desk provide easy access for retrieving information and quick filing to keep the clutter from returning. The big problem area in this office was creating a filing system that worked for this busy professional. She now keeps a stash of blank files at the front of the cabinet so she can easily grab and label one when needed so her files can make it into her drawer quickly. The file box on her desk is intended for current clients only. It’s been over a month since this was completed and she is still happy and getting better at quickly sorting and filing her paperwork.”- Harmony Seiter
It really is the best way to organize – using your VERTICAL SPACE.
I actually did this with my own office several years ago. My desk came with a couple of great desktop organizers and shelves when I bought it- I was so excited. But it was more of a burden than a help so I ripped off the shelves, created a command center and have been more productive ever since!
I can hear some of you now saying, “But what did she do with all of that stuff?” Chances are when she and Harmony went through all of that paperwork and ‘stuff’ it was old, no longer needed or moved to an better storage space. I love that this not only uses vertical space, but is much more appealing visually. There really is such a thing as visual clutter, and when you look at it all day long, it can way you down in ways you can’t imagine.
I hope this offers you some inspiration for your own work space!
