Often, when cleaning and organizing the clothes in your closet, you feel a tug to keep something because it cost you money. You know you won’t wear it, you know it doesn’t fit, you know it isn’t your style- but you keep it anyway because you just can’t bare to part with a perfectly good piece of clothing. In the past we have recommended doing a clothing swap with your friends: get everyone together, bring your clothes then pick and choose what you want. But many of you spent your hard earned money and don’t want to simply trade or give it away. The solution? Use the ever more popular apps that allow you to sell your clothing. Here are a few choices for you to try. (please note these are third party apps and we don’t hold responsibility/liability for your use of them .)
Totspot is a Pinterest-like app allows you to sell women’s, men’s and children’s clothing. Sarah Soboleski from Classically Organized recently interviewed a friend of hers who uses the app on website – I recommend reading it if you are interested in trying it out.
Here is what Totspot says about selling through their app:
Our fees are simple and straightforward:
- Listing is always free on Totspot
- When you make a sale, we deduct a 20% fee from your listing price. So you get back 80% of your sale value.
Here’s what you get:
- Verified buyers
- An incredibly easy tool to list items, directly from your phone
- Free credit card processing, and cash back directly to your bank
- Free customer support for your buyers
- Pre-addressed, pre-paid shipping labels for your sales, emailed directly to you at the time of sale
Lindsay Ginn from the blog Broke and Beautiful shared her experience selling on ThredUp. (I will say that based on what I have read that ThredUp is very particular about the items they accept and you are better off if you have more designer clothes.)
ThredUp’s mission is to make second-hand the first choice for fashion and to help people save time and money while also doing good for the planet.
Here is what the company shares about how their process works:
