I saw this post from Lysa TerKeurst on Facebook recently and felt I MUST share it with you. What a profound story- one that each of you should think about. What I liked about it was that she and her husband had an honest conversation about the dress. Then Lysa realized that in order to best honor the dress, she needed to display it with pride, not simply crumpling it up in the back of her closet.
I know it can be hard to get rid of sentimental items, I know it can also be hard to properly display everything- but have an honest conversation with yourself and your family. If you are just keeping things boxed up in the garage- why are you keeping them? If you can’t have them out and enjoy them why are you keeping them? I know some of you will say that “someday” you hope to display them properly- but be honest — will that day ever really come? Also remember one of our organizing rules is to set limits. While Lysa’s display is beautiful, she wouldn’t be able to do this with every special dress she has related to her marriage- sometimes you have to make the tough decisions.
I hope her story inspires you.
We would love to hear from you in the comments what you think about this – do you have something special you have kept and displayed? Let us know.
